British Invastion: 6 Must-See British TV shows

Here are a few groovy British TV shows I though you folks would dig because that's my jam! (I underlined all of the 'dad' vocabulary in that last sentence)

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace:

I have just recently discovered this show but the quick witted deadpan humor of Darkplace is pretty much better than The Office. There. I said it! I've always loved everything Richard Ayoade has done, he's a demi-god in his own right. The plot is simply a 1980s low-budget hospital drama that never aired in time. Trust me when I say your stomach will ache from chuckles.

Little Britain:

Another goofy one but completely worth watching. Little Britain could teach SNL a few lessons on proper sketch comedy. The show is entirely based on making fun of British characters from every corner of the UK. A flamboyant gay man, A "mentally ill" fellow in a wheelchair, and an incoherent teenage girl all reoccur within each episode when you least expect it. Though repetitive, you will never get tired of Little Britain!

Downton Abbey:

I'm actually so emotionally entwined into this show that's it's hard for me to talk about it. The first two episodes are relatively dull but my oh my does episode three deliver after so much hype. I CAN'T EVEN EXPLAIN IT! Its basically about how the heir to the Downton estate dies on the Titanic and the Crawley family struggle to find a new heir or loose it all. Sincerely watch this show with respect for it is my heart and soul.

Fawlty Towers:

A good classic show with the majestic comic god himself John Cleese! A hotel in the countryside of England is run by a husband and wife team who never can seem to get along. They try to cope with crazy guests and a Spanish bellhop who does not speak English. But at the end of the day they appear to love each other, even when Basil cannot control his temper.

The Young Ones:

The 1980s were a glorious time and I can't think of a better example of that than The Young Ones. Four very young and very different British men try to live together in harmony. Vyvyan the punk, Rick the mod not-so-rebellious anarchist, Neil the hippie who is always sick, and the peacemaker virgin Mike. Together they try to share a flat and live as normal University students. Probably the best part of it all is that every episode featured a live band. I have every episode on DVD...

Mr. Bean:

The first time I saw Mr. Bean was when I was in a hotel room in London. It seemed to be the only thing interesting on and from that day on I was hooked to Bean. How could one man make me laugh as hard as I did without saying a word. Maybe it was his face or his denial for confrontation but every episode brought another shenanigan. Long live Mr. Bean, His best pal/stuffed bear Teddy, and His Mr. T bedsheets. I also have every episode of this on DVD.

Tha Knows: A Night in Ventura

The Arctic Monkeys Concert that changed everything

The day was like any other. Except it wasn't. This was the day I would finally (after three years) see my favorite band the Arctic Monkeys. The line into the Majestic Venture Theater was wrapped around the venue and I was smack in the middle of it. After waiting for what seemed like an entire day it was 8:00 and the doors opened. The line slowly moved and I recognized many people from the fandom, however the moment was too surreal for me to greet any of them. Beyond recall my ticket was scanned, my bag was checked, and I was on the floor in the pit. I was with my cousin and she spotted a gap in the front to the far left of the stage where Nick O'Malley usually played. Reality set in. I was front row an Arctic Monkeys concert. Suddenly cheers irrupted from the balcony and I saw Alex Turner.
He was wearing a white suit with a black bow-ish tie and high-waisted fitted slacks. Matt Helders wore his Olympic tracky suit bottoms and his own band's shirt. The first song was new and blew me away. It was called "Do I Wanna Know?" and Alex played a teardrop shaped (fitting) mandolin looking instrument. About half way through the set, the white suit jacket was off, his shirt was undone and Alex's boyish charm had suddenly disappeared when he blurted into the microphone "Is that enough buttons undone?.....or maybe not enough" the crowd cheered. My dreams came true and they played so many deep tracks like "Old Yellow Bricks" and "That's Where You're Wrong". Eventually they closed with "505" and I found myself wandering around outside.
                                                  Two hours of
waiting when by and I was looking up at the room where the monkeys celebrated. Out flew from the window a white sheet of crumbled paper WHICH I CAUGHT!  To my disappointment it was not the set list. But it was some sort of schedule thing that had a wifi password on it so I feel like they all looked at it which makes it special. Regardless I was still outside waiting as the security guards bullied me for being a fangirl and the crowd of fans slowly dwindled down to about 20 people. SUDDENLY! The guards linked arms and yelled "MAKE ROOM!" to which I pushed the guards with all my strength. The first to leave was Alex Turner's girlfriend Arielle. I shouted her name and told her I loved her. She replied "Oh my gosh I love you too!" she got into her black Mercedes-Benz.
                                                 Next was the
man the myth the legend Alex Turner. He rushed out and stopped for a moment at someone I couldn't see then ran passed me.  I ,again, told him I loved him, touched his shoulder, and he waved to my direction and said "Cheers", hopped in the car and drove away from my life. Matt and his fiance Breana left next. Same routine. I told them I loved them and they half acknowledged me, a worth less mardy bum. As the rest of the band exited I was too overwhelmed to really move my body and the crowed rushed away afterwards. My cousin and I walked back to our hotel at midnight. Without warning my cousin Monica held up two signed tickets, which I instantly recognized to be Alex's signature, and mumbled the words "I don't even know...". She was the person He stopped for. The only person. We got signed tickets. Upon arriving to our room we both dazed off and were mostly silent until we both fell asleep. The next few days were hard on me. My post concert depression was on an all time high. I will get over it eventually. But for now the fact that it happened to me is unbelievable.

Love and post-traumatic concert stress,

Man Crush Monday: Swim Deep

Its not exactly one man, but four.

Cavan McCarthy:

The lad! Cavan is the Bassist and demi-god of Swim Deep. His boyish charm is enough to make you fangirl and his dorky-yet-lovable face screams "LOVE ME". I can't figure out exactly why I love Cav so much. Maybe it's his baggy clothes or is unwashed hair, but I love him far more than than an average, healthy girl should.

Austin Williams:

This man's voice can make angels jealous. Ok sorry I had a deep moment there but for reals he's amazing. He says things that really hit home like the witty lyrics of 'Honey' where he slips in "Don't just dream in your sleep it's just lazy!". Ozzy is also the frontman of Swim Deep which makes him a fan favorite and his heart-shaped glasses make every girl swoon.

Tom "Higgy" Higgins:

The Nirvana loving funny man of Swim Deep holds a special place in my heart since I first watched an interview of him on YouTube. Higgy was asked the question "Whats your dream gig" in which he quickly replied "On an cloud...with babes". Well there you have it, Higgy Higgins, the man of my dreams. I volunteer to be a babe in a cloud when you play that gig!

Zachary Robinson:

Zach isn't hot or cute. He is beautiful. That is simply the only way to put it. He drums shirtless which doesn't help. His smile is one of those Jay Gatsby smiles that you see only once or twice in your life, but he has that tourtured artist way about him. He also wears clothes that are either two sizes to small or two sizes to big. And only he can pull it off. Keep drumming and I'll keep listening.

Together they are Swim Deep and they are the most fantastic.

My Brush With Full-Frontal Happiness: Concert Reviews

Tijuana Panthers:

Although they are not hugely famous, The Tijuana Panthers are one of my favorite bands. This was my second time seeing them and they exceeded my expectations.

Beach House:

Beach House was the most unsuspecting concert i attended because it was one of the best shows I've been too. Victoria's voice is indeed and chilling live as it is on the record. One man next to me actually pulled out an echilada from his back pocket and ate it. He is my hero...

 Vampire Weekend:

My favorite of the 3 concerts I have never fangirled so hard in one night. They opened with "Cousins" and closed with "Walcott" and I think I was legally dead for 10 mins after Ezra Koenig made eye contact with me. Of course I knew I would react this way because I've had a crush of him since the very first album came out. He walked out bare foot and they first words to come out of his mouth were "It is so great to be back in California". The rest of the night was a blur because I was dancing like a madwoman and singing along off key. After the encore was over reality set in and I started crying. "MARRY ME EZRA!" were the only words able to slip from my lips. He may not have known it, but he said yes. We are now engaged.

Pardon My Absence!

It's been so long, I almost forgot how to use a computer.

My laptop took a leave of absence with out my control but I promise I am back! So here's an update: I like Kendrick Lamar, I went to 3 concerts, and I saw Diane Keaton in Downtown LA and didn't say hi. To make up for my disappearance I leave you with these pictures of that one time Kate Moss and Johnny Depp were dating...

R.I.P this beautiful relationship....
